When I pictured the path towards my dream wedding I never envisioned being poor, 10 lbs. over my heaviest weight, and obligated to delegate study time to the LSATs. Nevertheless, here I am, and before I start my underpaying temp job next week, I'm determined to keep my chin up and press on towards the goal of creating my budget friendly, yet still magical dream wedding.
Ok, pity party over. Now on to some fun bit of crafty business:
Since I'm a wedding pinterest-aholic, I've been collecting pins of my favorite wedding ephemera for way longer than I'd like to admit to my handsome fiance. One idea that I've always loved is a "will you be my bridesmaid?"package. I gleaned inspiration all over pinterest, but I had to put my own twist on the theme. I'm a huge fan of making things over the top whimsical so here goes.
I started with dafont.com, my favorite free font website. I used the font "Ink in the Meat" for my script. Next I downloaded some frame brushes from brusheezy.com, and I also purchased the font "attic" from youworkforthem.com. Using my crafty Photoshop skills, I created little booklets of inspiration for my bridesmaids featuring my colors, (pale blue, dark green, and coral/peach hues), their dresses, etc. etc.
For the covers I used the backs of vintage paper that I purchased from half-priced books. They had prepackaged "artist packs" where they crammed in all sorts of fun bits of paper from disintegrating and outdated merchandise. The one I purchased had lots of old sheet music, newspapers, and magazines. the "Be my Maid" background papers came from The Craft Warehouse from The DIY Shop's "crate paper" pad.
Next I purchased some cheap boxes at Michaels Crafts and painted them blue with a light coating of blue acrylic mixed with water (I wanted to create more of a "stained" effect than a painted look). Word to the wise, cheap boxes from Michaels are very prone to splinters! I sprayed the boxes several times with a clear spray paint coating to minimize this. Fun fact! if you purchase boxes with a glass cover, the best way to paint while keeping the glass part pristine is to remove the glass and the paper sheet from underneath that shows the dimensions and switch their places so the paper is on top. Soooo nice to simply pop out the paper when the thing is dry.
Also at Michaels in their clearance section were little diamond letter charms, so of course I had to scoop those up (like 47 cents each or so) and incorporate them into my wrapping. I also used some lovely turquoise yarn. I wrote their names on the inside covers with a green Sharpie and used some flower embellishments I also picked up at Michaels.
Next I stopped by my local bakery to pick out some macrons. I wanted some in the peach hues since I already had already inundated my creation with blues and greens. The two flavors in the right colors were raspberry and spicy chocolate...I had to warn my bridesmaids ;). I popped them in and Volia! my first bridemade creation. :)
